About Us

Wimbi House is a collection of two exceptional Swahili properties in Shela village, Lamu Island — one of the Indian Ocean's most extraordinary destinations.

We believe the best travel experiences come from staying in genuinely special places, cared for by people who love them. Both our properties have been designed and built with obsessive attention to material authenticity — locally sourced coral stone, hand-carved wooden doors and screens, neru plaster finished by craftspeople who have practised the trade for generations.

Our Philosophy
We want our guests to feel what it means to actually live in Shela — not just visit. That means waking to the call to prayer, walking to the beach through quiet village lanes, eating fish caught that morning, watching dhows sail past at sunset. The full experience of this remarkable place.

Sustainability
Both properties operate on 99% solar power with battery storage, Starlink internet, and we actively support local craftspeople and suppliers. We are committed to Lamu's continued status as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Team
Our small local team — housekeeping, cook service, boat captain, and transfer coordination — are all from Shela and Lamu. They are the heart of the Wimbi House experience.
