Wimbi House is the perfect home for a large family holiday or group adventure. Built using local coral stone and traditional Swahili building methods — neru plaster carvings, locally made bespoke furnishings, three ground-floor fountains — the house creates a natural cooling airflow throughout. We had an absolutely amazing stay at Wimby's house. From the very beginning, the owner Tristan was incredibly available, responsive, and helpful, which made the whole experience smooth and stress-free.
The on-site team was also very good.
The house itself is stunning: very modern, extremely well maintained, and equipped with great amenities. The house has five beautiful and spacious bedrooms, each with its own large, white, clean private bathroom, which made the stay very comfortable for everyone.
Another big plus: the mosquito nets are not just around the bed, but actually surround a large part of the room, which makes the whole space feel more pleasant and peaceful. Combined with the very powerful ceiling fans, we had absolutely no issue with mosquitoes during our stay.
And finally, the terrace with the pool is simply breathtaking, a perfect place to relax and spend time together.
We truly had an unforgettable experience and would 100% recommend this place!!

The decor is gorgeous & creative, the staff were brilliant, and there were lots of board games, books and some toys which the kids enjoyed! Although, as to be expected in Lamu there were lots of stairs - house the layout worked well for kids and the highlight of our kids holiday was spending multiple hours in the stylish swimming pool on the upper floor. Chef John cooked us some seriously delicious meals, chosen from Tristan's clear menu. The highlight was lobster on our final night - and he also accommodated the kids needs, packing little evening meals to take with us on the dhow. Peter the house manager is a lovely man who has worked in Lamu for decades. He made sure things ran smoothly for us, together with the hardworking Sammy. We also really appreciated the night guard even though we felt extremely safe. You can't have a bad time at Wimbi house. Go ahead and book!

Worth knowing that Shela is a living village and you are living within the community which includes daybreak cockerels, braying donkeys and the call to prayer... Chef John makes good samosas and fish curry and house staff are charming, although they need directing. Wimbi is located behind the boat building yard at the further end of town from

We stayed for a month in the beautiful Wimbi House together with our 3 children and our nanny.
Wimbi is a beautiful new villa in Shela and is within walking distance of the coast and the various shops.
The house is huge and spacious with large bedrooms and bathrooms. We loved it on the top floor under the makuti.m and enjoyed the sea view every day.
Our children greatly enjoyed the refreshing pool.
Last but not least, Wimbi has fantastic staff who make you feel completely at home and are ready for you with a smile.
We are huge fans of Wimbi and definitely recommend it.

All the activities Tristan recommended were great - tour of Lamu, kiteboarding at Cabanas, a sunset dhow sail, and all the local contacts he gave us were good people.
Special mention to the staff again, as they cooked delicious meals, kept the home very clean and were all in all a pleasure to have around.
Wimbi house itself is a gem of beauty and tranquility, with large generous rooms, a plunge pool on the 3rd floor and a terrace with a view of the ocean where you can while your time away. The decor is harmonious , beds comfortable, there are nooks for reading or simply resting - it is beautiful.
I would highly recommend it, I can't wait to plan our next visit.

The swimming pool and the seating area around it just makes the place - with plenty of shade it became the perfect hanging out area during the midday heat, especially for the children.
We were looked after by the most friendly and caring staff, Sammy and Peter. We mostly ate in the house and John the chef made delicious, simple meals such as Swahili curry, grilled fish, prawns, and we could never get enough of his home made chips. John was very accommodating in cooking separate meals for the children if needed.
Tristan was the perfect host. His local knowledge of people and places allowed us to book experiences such as snorkelling, fishing, sunset dhow sailing, which were all children friendly too.
It was our first time in Lamu but we will definitely return to Wimbi one day.

The house has several comfortable seating areas with large fans, and gorgeous views from the top lounge area. The rooftop pool is a game changer, definitely needed it in the heat.

Being newly constructed it is fresh and clean, beautiful finishes with the very best fittings and total attention to every detail. Large comfortable rooms with generous mosquito nets so there is always a breeze at night unlike much accommodation on the coast which can be quite humid. The best part is the spectacular pool on the top floor which is an engineering feat - we spent much of the day here and enjoyed dips in the middle of the night under the stars. Our stay was far too short and we will be back - would advise at least a 10 day stay in this magical place as it takes a few days to unwind and enjoy the mellow atmosphere of Shella. There is nowhere else like it in Africa.

Welcomed by attentive staff who managed our bags, showed us our rooms & assisted us with the excellent Wifi. All rooms are light, airy & spacious. Initially a little confusing, navigating the alleys but helpful locals on hand. Roughly 15km of pristine beach. Peponi for a post swim GnT & a Wimbi lunch of fresh fish, delicious salads, all prepared by resident chef. The open area on the upper floor was a great place to spend the afternoon, almost as good as the hanging bed by the pool. Quiet places to read or write. We did not want for anything. Wine & beer ordered & delivered to the house. Our rooms prepared each evening, a clever mosquito net dividing each room and a quiet ceiling fan ensured we slept well each night. It was a truly wonderful time. A perfect end to our Kenya trip. Thank you very much for sharing it. We are already dreaming of our return!

Wimbi house is in the ideal spot, close to the beach, and tucked between alleyways that made exploring the island a continuous adventure (and always passing many smiling faces!). The house is peaceful and spacious, the perfect holiday spot (and with delicious food made by the resident chef- fresh fish and tasty salads, and the best Kenyan coffee!). A favourite of ours was a drink at Peponi Hotel post-swim and beach walk, after which we happily walked back to a comfortable bed in a wonderful house! A huge thank you for our stay- our trip couldn't have had a better ending.

Fly to Manda Island airport (LAU) — it is a 5-minute boat transfer to Lamu town, then a 10-minute boat to Shela. We arrange transfers for all guests.

Outstanding staff beyond sparkling clean and so central. The guys looked after us ladies like we were precious gems. The pool area is perfect. The entrance is a design masterpiece. Felt like stepping into an oasis every time we came home. All rooms are spacious and equal so no one felt like they had a better room. I can’t wait to bring my family

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Wimby's house. From the very beginning, the owner Tristan was incredibly available, responsive, and helpful, which made the whole experience smooth and stress-free.
The on-site team was also very good.
The house itself is stunning: very modern, extremely well maintained, and equipped with great amenities. The house has five beautiful and spacious bedrooms, each with its own large, white, clean private bathroom, which made the stay very comfortable for everyone.
Another big plus: the mosquito nets are not just around the bed, but actually surround a large part of the room, which makes the whole space feel more pleasant and peaceful. Combined with the very powerful ceiling fans, we had absolutely no issue with mosquitoes during our stay.
And finally, the terrace with the pool is simply breathtaking, a perfect place to relax and spend time together.
We truly had an unforgettable experience and would 100% recommend this place!!

We LOVED our stay at Tristan's beautifully newly refurbished house. The decor is gorgeous & creative, the staff were brilliant, and there were lots of board games, books and some toys which the kids enjoyed! Although, as to be expected in Lamu there were lots of stairs - house the layout worked well for kids and the highlight of our kids holiday was spending multiple hours in the stylish swimming pool on the upper floor. Chef John cooked us some seriously delicious meals, chosen from Tristan's clear menu. The highlight was lobster on our final night - and he also accommodated the kids needs, packing little evening meals to take with us on the dhow. Peter the house manager is a lovely man who has worked in Lamu for decades. He made sure things ran smoothly for us, together with the hardworking Sammy. We also really appreciated the night guard even though we felt extremely safe. You can't have a bad time at Wimbi house. Go ahead and book!

Worth knowing that Shela is a living village and you are living within the community which includes daybreak cockerels, braying donkeys and the call to prayer... Chef John makes good samosas and fish curry and house staff are charming, although they need directing. Wimbi is located behind the boat building yard at the further end of town from
Peponi but close to Banana House yoga and Natural Lamu Spa .

We stayed for a month in the beautiful Wimbi House together with our 3 children and our nanny.
Wimbi is a beautiful new villa in Shela and is within walking distance of the coast and the various shops.
The house is huge and spacious with large bedrooms and bathrooms. We loved it on the top floor under the makuti.m and enjoyed the sea view every day.
Our children greatly enjoyed the refreshing pool.
Last but not least, Wimbi has fantastic staff who make you feel completely at home and are ready for you with a smile.
We are huge fans of Wimbi and definitely recommend it.

Wimbi is a perfect home for your stay in Shela. Tristan and his staff go above and beyond to make your stay happy, memorable and special. All the activities Tristan recommended were great - tour of Lamu, kiteboarding at Cabanas, a sunset dhow sail, and all the local contacts he gave us were good people.
Special mention to the staff again, as they cooked delicious meals, kept the home very clean and were all in all a pleasure to have around.
Wimbi house itself is a gem of beauty and tranquility, with large generous rooms, a plunge pool on the 3rd floor and a terrace with a view of the ocean where you can while your time away. The decor is harmonious , beds comfortable, there are nooks for reading or simply resting - it is beautiful.
I would highly recommend it, I can't wait to plan our next visit.

We had a wonderful time staying at Wimbi house. It is beautifully designed and decorated with large rooms and a sense of space. The swimming pool and the seating area around it just makes the place - with plenty of shade it became the perfect hanging out area during the midday heat, especially for the children.
We were looked after by the most friendly and caring staff, Sammy and Peter. We mostly ate in the house and John the chef made delicious, simple meals such as Swahili curry, grilled fish, prawns, and we could never get enough of his home made chips. John was very accommodating in cooking separate meals for the children if needed.
Tristan was the perfect host. His local knowledge of people and places allowed us to book experiences such as snorkelling, fishing, sunset dhow sailing, which were all children friendly too.
It was our first time in Lamu but we will definitely return to Wimbi one day.

The house has several comfortable seating areas with large fans, and gorgeous views from the top lounge area. The rooftop pool is a game changer, definitely needed it in the heat.
Shela is like the island time forgot, rustic yet beautiful and Wimbi was a luxurious base
Kate and Tristan were really helpful; organised transfers, helped with menus and shopping and full of great suggestions for days out. Thank you for all you did to make it the holiday of a lifetime!

Being newly constructed it is fresh and clean, beautiful finishes with the very best fittings and total attention to every detail. Large comfortable rooms with generous mosquito nets so there is always a breeze at night unlike much accommodation on the coast which can be quite humid. The best part is the spectacular pool on the top floor which is an engineering feat - we spent much of the day here and enjoyed dips in the middle of the night under the stars. Our stay was far too short and we will be back - would advise at least a 10 day stay in this magical place as it takes a few days to unwind and enjoy the mellow atmosphere of Shella. There is nowhere else like it in Africa.

We loved our stay. Five stars in all respects. Well done to you, it is an idyllic paradise. Reliably met & delivered to the house. Welcomed by attentive staff who managed our bags, showed us our rooms & assisted us with the excellent Wifi. All rooms are light, airy & spacious. Initially a little confusing, navigating the alleys but helpful locals on hand. Roughly 15km of pristine beach. Peponi for a post swim GnT & a Wimbi lunch of fresh fish, delicious salads, all prepared by resident chef. The open area on the upper floor was a great place to spend the afternoon, almost as good as the hanging bed by the pool. Quiet places to read or write. We did not want for anything. Wine & beer ordered & delivered to the house. Our rooms prepared each evening, a clever mosquito net dividing each room and a quiet ceiling fan ensured we slept well each night. It was a truly wonderful time. A perfect end to our Kenya trip. Thank you very much for sharing it. We are already dreaming of our return!

Wimbi house is in the ideal spot, close to the beach, and tucked between alleyways that made exploring the island a continuous adventure (and always passing many smiling faces!). The house is peaceful and spacious, the perfect holiday spot (and with delicious food made by the resident chef- fresh fish and tasty salads, and the best Kenyan coffee!). A favourite of ours was a drink at Peponi Hotel post-swim and beach walk, after which we happily walked back to a comfortable bed in a wonderful house! A huge thank you for our stay- our trip couldn't have had a better ending.
